T.S.N.S Annadale
We live in some very turbulent times at the moment. We have for the last five years. Economic Crises, the rise of right wing populism, Trump and other extreme populist leaders, they all add up. It seems like we're back in the 1930's in terms of politics and we face the same choices. Again, we are offered the tricksters curse to show us what we should not do, but again we fall for it as a mass of the globe. T.S.N. S Annandale explores speculatively what this could be, what this could do, and how it could turn out on a grand scale.
Set in late 2229 to early 2251, this follows the controversial time in the career of the main character, the then The Right Honourable Deputy Governor Therain Kosvalk Songval of the flagship space station T. S. N. S Annandale from it's controversial establishment to the end of the Terran Civil war between 2236 to 2247. The station itself is a dwarf planet, heavily defended and entombed in glass to create a breathable atmosphere capable of taking a permanent colony of two million permanent residents, five hundred thousand transients on business and many, many more trading ships docking day to day as well as warships of many races.
Built half a parsec into contested , or 'Occupied' Pulmarian space only controlled by an armistice, it is a contrevesial flagship station akin to Gibraltar during the wars of colonisation. This is a place that combines many strains and tensions in an era in space equivalent to the Terran wars of colonisation. Be it the Terran civil war tearing apart the Terran Commonwealth between 2225 to 2258. The Pulmarian Borderwars threatening to start over the contested parsec the Terrans still occupy again at any time as there was an armistice but no peace treaty and has not been for thirty years. In many ways, this war that could flare up at any time is why the station was built. Or a larger conflict on the horizon that threatens everybody. Mixed in with day to day diplomacy and commerce, this mix is what makes the station both a complex place to work but also a barometer of the relations of the day. A living trade city under glass as well as a major battlestation, this is a difficult place to work, balancing all these responsibilities for the senior staff.
Written from records later from the point of view of a clan descendant, this explores this time from the view of history after The Right Honourable Therain Kosvalk Songvals assassination as a former Naval hero, Deputy Governor of Annandale, Senator, Former President of the Terran Commonwealth and retired presidential envoy, this unique lens allows an insight into not only the times, but what it takes to navigate them.
